Build or refine OpenEMR features, modules, and workflows with maintainability and upgrade paths in mind.
I’m Jerry Padgett, an OpenEMR principal developer for eight years and former project administrator. I help practices and product teams build, integrate, and improve OpenEMR with an engineer who knows the platform at its core.
40+ years engineering experience · OpenEMR contributor since 2015
Experienced engineering support for practices, software teams, and organizations extending OpenEMR.

A selection from more than a decade of building, maintaining, and supporting OpenEMR.
Guided core engineering across patient care, interoperability, certification, billing, imaging, communications, platform reliability, and release delivery.
Architected and built portal capabilities spanning scheduling, secure messaging, registration, online payments, forms, documents, C-CDA access, and responsive redesigns.
Completed FHIR write integration for supported clinical data and developed API Explorer capabilities for OAuth2, PKCE, client credentials, JWT clients, refresh tokens, and scope-driven resources.
Completed Questionnaire Manager and replaced LForms with the FHIR SDC runtime, supporting availability rules and assessments in patient and encounter context.
Led and co-authored clinical quality measure certification work and continued C-CDA modernization, eCQM/QRDA updates, validation, and certification maintenance.
Developer and maintainer of the Weno eRx module and OpenEMR’s Fax/SMS and email module, integrating prescribing and communications into clinical workflows.
Contributed institutional billing, UB-04/837I, Billing Manager, and institutional-care workflows across ED/observation, inpatient, assisted living, and home-based care.
Designed, developed, and managed OpenEMR usage tracking, including asynchronous menu click event collection, backend processing, and database support. The work was proposed in March 2025 and merged as PR #8194 on April 26, 2025 ↗.
Engineering contributor to the DICOM viewer, with ongoing work in performance, security, module infrastructure, Windows compatibility, and production issue response.
